Welcome to Tiptoes Forest School
At Tiptoes we aim for all children across our sites to experience and benefit from forest school activities. We aim to promote self-esteem, creativity, confidence and independence. It works in a variety of ways and doesn’t have to be in the woods. The focus is for children to really enjoy the outdoors and forge their own connections to nature.

History of Forest Schools
The Forest Schools concept originated in Scandinavia. The approach was widely adopted in Denmark in the 1980’s as a solution to the lack of indoor facilities for pre-school children.
In 1993 a group of nursery nurses and lecturers visited Settings in Sweden and witnessed the benefits. On their return to the UK they developed a Forest School programme and based on the impacts developed training and accreditation for other practitioners.
Our Forest School Leaders and Trainers
Shannon Norton is Forest School trained.
Her training was completed at Thwaite hall Cottingham, where she carried out a variety of forest school activities.
Laura Morahan works closely with Shannon to ensure all 7 of our Tiptoes sites have rich outdoor experiences at forest school.
